Persistent tendon and myofascial pain can interfere with walking, exercise, work and sport. When appropriate, shockwave therapy may be one option to consider as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program. At Precision Sports Therapy Inc., we assess your condition before recommending shockwave therapy and consider how it fits with exercise, activity modification and your overall recovery goals.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy uses acoustic pressure waves delivered through an applicator placed against the skin.
Depending on the device, treatment may use radial pressure waves. Shockwave therapy is used for selected musculoskeletal conditions, particularly some persistent tendon-related problems, as well as post-surgical knee and shoulder issues.

During treatment, an applicator is positioned over the selected area and delivers a series of pulses. You may feel tapping or pressure, and at times discomfort can occur during the session. The intensity should be appropriate to the treatment plan and your tolerance.
Some people experience temporary soreness, tenderness or bruising afterward. The number and spacing of sessions depend on the condition, device protocol and response to treatment.
Shockwave therapy should not automatically replace exercise-based rehabilitation. For many tendon conditions, progressive loading, appropriate activity modification and a structured exercise program remain important components of care.
At Precision Sports Therapy, we consider your symptoms, injury history, functional limitations and goals before recommending a treatment approach.
We will discuss the potential benefits so you can make an informed decision.
Shockwave therapy may not be appropriate in some circumstances, including certain bleeding disorders, pregnancy-related treatment considerations, active infection or treatment over specific vulnerable structures. Suitability depends on the device, treatment area and your medical history.
